Harlequin Horror

Posted by Randi on Sunday, July 14, 2013

What they want:
If you can write genuinely frightening stories that will keep readers up all night, we want to hear from you! Monsters, supernatural beings, psychopaths and bloodthirsty slashers—your antagonist(s) should be larger than life, seemingly unstoppable and able to instill fear and a terrifying sense of doom even when they are not on the page. These are plot-driven page-turners where gore is optional, nail-biting tension is not!

Harlequin Horror is NOT romance, though sex and romance can feature, and your story may or may not have a happy ending for your protagonist(s).

Think authors such as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Herbert, Graham Masterton, and films and novels such as 28 Days Later, Poltergeist, Scream, Misery, Jaws, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Ring, Cabin in the Woods, and The Walking Dead.
